around the time i got my new beetle, i was scouring the internet for information on this model. i didn't know anything about the car, really; reliability, technical, reviews, etc. i quickly stumbled upon www.newbeetle.org and i've been hooked ever since. from the moment i joined, i was impressed with all the information this website contained. but what has really made me stay and love the forums so much are the people. new beetle owners from all over the country (and a few outside the united states) congregate at newbeetle.org to share stories, offer advice, write "how-to" information, have get-togethers, share photos and be a part of something that's more than just a car.

newbeetle.org started in november of 1999 as a personal project of jeff croft. at it's peak, it had over 12,000 registered members. it's a top internet resource for volkswagen new beetle owners and has countless threads and posts that now compose thousands of pages of information. when i joined in march of 2005, the .org had calmed down a bit since it started, but it was still teaming in activity. in september of 2005, jeff did a major overhaul on the forums database and a new, newbeetle.org forum was created. the old forums no longer exist, which is sad since the amount of information they contained was amazing.

i've learned so much since i joined. the vast amount of knowledge contained in the forums is pretty amazing. every question i've had about my car, someone has been able to give me some input on a solution. i've already saved money by doing a few things myself and i have the .org to thank for that! i've shared my stories, too. there's nowhere else on the net you can go to share how you got goosebumps when someone in a new beetle waved at you first! when you have this much love for a hunk of metal and plastic, you have to be with those who understand your crazy obsession.

there aren't too many people in my area who have joined newbeetle.org. i am trying to change that. i've never been a big fan of leaving anything on someone's car, but i've created cards to leave under people's windshield wiper, inviting them to come join the .org. yeah, it's kinda geeky, but how can you keep secret something that's such a good thing?

i've been a regular, addicted member (and a paid sponsor as well!) for over two years and i know i'll be around a long time. the members are great and i consider more than a few to be my friends, though we've never met. thanks to all at newbeetle.org for making my experience a positive one!
